Project Overview

The Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition has proposed a to establish the first Inuit Violence Against Women (IVAW) home south of Inuit traditional homeland. This sanctuary will provide Inuit women and their children with a safe, healthy, and culturally appropriate place to live and heal in our welcoming family-oriented neighbourhood with excellent access to schools, parks, and greenspace.

Current Status

Phase: Pre-Construction – Site Plan Approved

Progress Update: The site plan and land transfer was approved by City Council. The Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition has completed three community workshops and received site plan approval. The project is now pending construction start from the developer.

Timeline: Construction expected to begin by Fall 2025, with completion by end of 2026

Upcoming Actions: Construction start anticipated to start Fall 2025

Community Involvement: The OAC has committed to working collaboratively with community members and local stakeholders throughout the construction process. Updates will be shared through our newsletter and website.
