Zoning Amendment Application: VAW Housing Initiative Update

A Zoning Amendment application has been submitted for the vacant lot for the proposed Violence Against Women Housing Initiative (VAW), in Hunt Club Park.

The proposal is for a new transitional housing facility that would provide a safe, supportive home for Inuit women and children. The proposal includes:

  • A two-and-a-half story building, 13 units, up to 30 residents
  • 10 onsite parking spaces

To facilitate the project, two zoning changes are being proposed by the applicant:

  • a site-specific exception to permit a Residential Care Facility
  • an increase in the maximum building height (from 10.7 to 11.5 metres)

Timelines and Approval Authority

The application will be considered by the City’s Planning and Housing Committee on February 19th, 2025
