As part of my ongoing commitment to addressing violence against women and ensuring adequate housing, I wanted to provide an update following the June council meeting where the City officially transferred land on Forestglade to the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition (OAC) to establish a much-needed VAW sanctuary.
I am happy to share that the applicant (OAC) has now engaged LGA Architectural Partners, working in collaboration with the award-winning firm Formline Architecture to design this new home. Together, they have partnered with Indigenous communities within Ottawa to ensure that their needs and perspectives are central to the project. Along with this, both the OAC and the Architects feel that gathering community feedback will also be critical as they continue to shape the future of this home.
As they approach key decision points, gathering input from the community remains a priority. While the applicant is still in the early stages of working with the architects, and there are no concrete timelines or finalized designs at this point, they want to ensure your voice is heard.
If you are interested in this project and would like to stay involved, please email my office at jessica.bradley@ottawa.ca and we will add you to our mailing list. Your input will help shape this important initiative as we work towards creating safer spaces for women and families in need.
