Last week, City Council was informed that the O-Train Trillium Line extension project was advancing to the next phase of the project — Trial Running. This is exciting news as it brings us one step closer to reopening the Trillium Line as well as Line 4, the train to both the EY Centre and the Airport. Trial Running began on October 7th, and will take a minimum of 21 days to complete. However, should the Trial Running encounter challenges the 21 day clock will restart. This will ensure that the City only accepts the system, confident that it is ready for passenger service.
Once Trial Running is complete, Council will receive a full report and briefing on the results. The project will then move towards substantial completion, final readiness work, and regulatory approvals. This process will take a minimum of three weeks, and this milestone will signify that all infrastructure components, regulatory approvals, safety certifications, and Trial Running requirements have been met. Once these contractual and regulatory requirements have been completed, the City will be in a position to move forward with the launch of service to the public.
