It has been nearly a week since the severe storm and record rainfall impacted Ottawa, and I wanted to provide an update on the recovery efforts underway across our community.
Since the storm, City of Ottawa crews, Hydro Ottawa, emergency responders, and community partners have been working continuously to restore services, clear debris, repair damaged infrastructure, and respond to the thousands of calls for assistance received from residents. While significant progress has been made, recovery efforts continue in areas where flooding, downed trees, and infrastructure damage have had lasting impacts.
If your property was affected by the storm and you have not yet reported flooding or other storm-related damage to the City, you are encouraged to do so through the City’s online reporting system or by calling 3-1-1. Residents should use only one reporting method to help staff respond as efficiently as possible. City staff continue to assess reported damage and respond to outstanding requests as resources become available.
Below are several important updates for residents continuing their cleanup and recovery efforts.
Storm-Waste Disposal Fees Waived at the Trail Waste Facility Landfill
Residents who have submitted a service request for a flooded basement or storm-related waste can dispose of eligible materials at the Trail Waste Facility Landfill free of charge.
To receive the disposal fee waiver, please bring:

Your City service request number (digital or printed); and
-
Valid photo identification showing your current address.
If you have already disposed of eligible storm-related materials at the Trail Waste Facility Landfill and paid disposal fees, you will be eligible to request reimbursement. Please keep:

Your landfill tipping fee receipt;

Your City service request number (digital or printed); and
-
Valid identification showing your address.
The City will provide additional information about the reimbursement process once it becomes available.
To accommodate increased demand, the Trail Waste Facility Landfill will also be open on additional Saturdays over the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to check Ottawa.ca for current operating hours before visiting.
Additional Green Bin Capacity for Spoiled Food
Residents are encouraged to continue using their green bin to dispose of spoiled food and other organic waste resulting from extended power outages. Green bin collection continues weekly on your regular collection day, and there is no limit to the amount of organic waste that can be set out.
If you have more spoiled food than will fit in your green bin, you may place additional garbage bags beside your green bin. Each bag should be clearly labelled “Green Bin”, and it will be collected with your regularly scheduled green bin pickup.
Using the green bin whenever possible helps support efficient waste collection and cleanup efforts across the city.
Storm Waste Collection Reminder
Residents affected by the July 1 storm may continue to place eligible storm-related materials at the curb without following the standard three-item garbage limit.
Depending on operational needs, these materials may be collected as part of your regular garbage collection or through dedicated storm cleanup operations. If your storm waste is not collected right away, please leave it at the curb, as additional collection passes will continue in affected neighbourhoods.

I know many residents across the city are still cleaning up their homes, working through insurance claims, and recovering from the impacts of this storm.
