Many residents reached out to our office in June after noticing trees had been removed along the South Keys Shopping Mall. Like many of you, we were surprised to see the extent of the tree removal and immediately contacted City staff to investigate.
Following our intervention, City staff met with the property management team and contractors on site. It was determined they were unaware of the City’s Tree Protection By-law, and they were committed to making things right. As a result, 20 new maple trees have now been planted along the berm bordering the creek, and the property owner has advised they are being watered regularly to help ensure they become established.
Thank you to the residents who took the time to bring this to our attention. Your vigilance helps protect our community’s green spaces, and we’re pleased that together we were able to achieve a positive outcome for the neighbourhood.
