As you are aware, Bill 56 was passed by the Province of Ontario in late 2025. It revoked the legal authority of municipalities to use automated speed enforcement (ASE) systems, which led to the removal of Ward 10 cameras on:
- Hunt Club Rd. Westbound (near Pike St.)
- Conroy Rd. Southbound (near Lorry Greenberg Dr.)
Alongside the legislative changes introduced by Bill 56, the Province of Ontario create the Road Safety Initiatives Fund. This fund will provide $210 million to municipalities over the next two years to support them in implementing approved traffic calming measures at former speed camera locations. Eligible measures include, among others, traffic calming, improved signage, and operational safety upgrades.
After assessing the former ASE sites in Ward 10, City Staff have suggested the following replacement measures:
- Speed display board at Hunt Club Rd. Westbound (near Pike St.)
- Speed display board and upgraded power source for flashing beach at Conroy Rd. Southbound (near Lorry Greenberg Dr.)
In addition, the Ministry of Transport confirmed that safety measures may be considered on nearby roads, which are located within reasonable distance of a former ASE site and serve the same population of vulnerable road users. As such, City Staff are also recommending speed cushions for Blohm Drive, which is near the former ASE camera on Conroy Rd.
While details are still being finalized, I wanted to share this early update with you. The proposed measures will now be refined through further consultation where appropriate, along with detailed design and site condition reviews. As this work progresses, site-specific or underground constraints may affect feasibility at some locations. Please rest assured that I will continue to share updates and keep you informed as they become available.
