Project Overview
The City of Ottawa has completed a Neighbourhood Traffic Calming study for Pike Street and Lorry Greenberg Drive to improve road safety, reduce speeding, and enhance conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. The project was initiated in 2023 in response to community concerns and follows the City’s approved traffic calming prioritization process.
The recommended improvements are designed to slow traffic, improve pedestrian crossings, and create safer cycling connections, particularly near schools, parks, and residential areas.
Key project elements include:
- Two sets of speed cushions:
- Between Hunt Club and Huntersfield Drive
- Between Castlegreen Private and Lorry Greenberg Dr.
- Painted edge lines on Pike Street
- A raised pedestrian crosswalk at Pike Street and Lorry Greenberg Drive
- Corner radius reduction at the southeast corner of the Pike/Lorry Greenberg intersection
- Two additional sets of speed cushions:
- Between Finland Prv (West) and Finland Prv (East)
- Between Huntersfield Dr and Bramblegrove Crest (West)
- New painted bicycle lanes with buffers and delineators
- Ride-through bulb-outs to calm traffic while maintaining cyclist safety
- Relocation of a north-side bus stop and construction of a new bus platform
- Updated pedestrian landing pads and crossing infrastructure
Current Status
Phase: Council Approval and Detailed Design (1 year)
Progress Update:
The traffic calming study is complete, and staff have recommended proceeding with the proposed roadway modifications. Following Council approval, the project will be transferred to the Infrastructure and Water Services Department for detailed design and construction scheduling which takes one year to complete.

Community Involvement:
Residents were invited to provide feedback through a public survey conducted in November 2024. A total of 247 responses were received, with 62% supporting the study and 59% expressing comfort with the proposed design. Additional updates will be shared as the project advances through detailed design and implementation.
