Permanent traffic calming measures are coming to Tapiola Crescent, with construction currently on track to begin this September.
The project follows the online community consultations and will introduce several improvements aimed at making Tapiola Crescent safer and more comfortable for pedestrians, cyclists and residents. Work will include three new pedestrian crossovers with curb extensions, helping to shorten crossing distances and improve connections to nearby bus stops and pathways through the surrounding parkland.
The City will also install two concrete centre medians to narrow the travel lanes and help reduce vehicle speeds. Additional improvements are planned at the intersections of Tapiola Crescent and Johnston Road, including new crosswalk markings and upgraded pedestrian landing areas that meet current accessibility standards.
The new pedestrian crossovers are planned:

Between Johnston Road West and Gentle Gate Crescent;

Between White Clover Private and Rastila Crescent/Tammela Court; and
-
Between Brando Crescent/Rushford Private and Haxby Private.
During construction, residents can expect temporary lane reductions, alternating traffic and possible detours; however, access to private properties will be maintained.
These permanent measures are an important investment in neighbourhood safety and reflect feedback we heard from the community during the 2024 consultation. I look forward to seeing this work get underway and the improvements completed later this year.
