Lansdowne 2.0: My Continued Stance

Oct 2, 2025 | News Updates

I’ve received a number of emails from residents opposing the Lansdowne 2.0 proposal, and I want to be clear about my position. In 2023, I voted against the plan because it posed significant financial risks, failed to deliver affordable housing, and did not address key transportation and public realm concerns. Unfortunately, very little has changed since then.

No Affordable Housing: Ottawa faces an affordable housing crisis, yet the proposal still contains no affordable units.

Record City Debt: Our city is carrying the highest debt in its history, with urgent infrastructure needs that should take priority over a half-billion-dollar entertainment project.

Rising Costs: Tariffs and escalating construction costs will only drive the price tag higher. Our own Auditor General has also raised a red flag with respect to the total project cost being under estimated, with an underfunded contingency fund.

Better Options Overlooked: Alternatives exist for more modest investments that would enhance Lansdowne without exposing taxpayers to such high financial risk, but these have not been fully explored.

I recognize that Lansdowne is a valued community hub, but this plan remains a bad deal for the public.

The next decision point for Council will be in late October or early November. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, please email my team.
