Bank Street Renewal Project Update

Jul 10, 2026 | News Updates

Construction continues on the City of Ottawa’s Bank Street Renewal Project between Riverside Drive and Ledbury Avenue. This multi-year project includes replacing underground watermains and sewers, rebuilding the road, improving intersections and sidewalks, and creating a safer, more accessible corridor for everyone who uses Bank Street.

Upcoming Traffic Changes

Beginning July 13Riverside Drive westbound will be closed between Data Centre Road and Neil Way while crews complete watermain replacement work. During the closure:

  • Traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes, with one lane open in each direction.

  • Left turns remain prohibited in all directions at the Bank Street and Riverside Drive intersection to help keep traffic moving. Please plan ahead and use alternate routes where possible.

Looking ahead, road resurfacing and intersection work along Riverside Drive is expected to take place this fall and may require intermittent lane closures.

Ongoing Construction

Throughout 2026, Bank Street will remain reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive and Collins Avenue. Construction will also resume later this year at the Bank Street and Heron Road intersection, where crews will complete sidewalk, cycle track, and traffic signal improvements.

As always, please allow extra travel time if you’re driving through the area.

Support Local Businesses

Businesses along Bank Street remain open throughout construction. If you’re able, please continue to shop local and support the many businesses in the area while this important infrastructure work is underway.
