Planning and design work continues for improvements to the Bank Street and Leitrim Road intersection. Preliminary designs are now completed, with detailed design expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
After hearing feedback from residents about the need for safer pedestrian access along Bank Street, I was able to have a pedestrian connection incorporated into the project design. The current design now includes a precast pin curb separating the southbound right lane from the west shoulder, creating a safer connection for pedestrians travelling between Orville Kemp Street and the proposed sidewalk at the Leitrim intersection.
Property acquisition does remain one of the key factors affecting the project timeline. The City continues to work with the National Capital Commission (NCC) and neighbouring property owners to secure the land required for the improvements.
Construction will depend on both property acquisition and final funding approval. The City is also coordinating with utility companies on relocations that will be required before construction, with some utility work potentially beginning in early 2027.
I know improvements at this intersection are important to residents, particularly when it comes to pedestrian safety and connectivity. I will continue to follow the project closely and share further updates as the design progresses.
