Residents may have noticed new fencing recently installed along the school yard adjacent to Pushman Park.
We have confirmed that the fence was installed by the School Board as part of a project intended to improve the safety and security of the school yard. Similar fencing has been installed at a number of school properties across the city this summer.
Unfortunately, advance notice of these installations was not provided to the City or surrounding residents. Given the concerns raised by the community, Recreation, Culture and Facility Services has now formally requested that the School Board provide advance notice to the City when future fencing projects involve school yards adjacent to City parks.
While the fencing itself is not a City project, better advance communication will allow our office to keep residents informed about changes that may affect the parks and public spaces they use.
