Cahill Sidewalk Improvements

Aug 18, 2026 | Development Projects, Planning Projects

Location: Cahill Drive (Albion Road South to Southport Drive)

Project Type: Sidewalk Renewal and Pedestrian Accessibility Improvements

Developer/Lead Agency: City of Ottawa

Project Overview

The City of Ottawa is moving forward with the renewal and widening of the sidewalks on both sides of Cahill Drive between Albion Road South and Southport Drive.

The existing sidewalks are in poor physical condition and require renewal. The project will improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and overall connectivity through the neighbourhood.

The pedestrian crossover (PXO) on Cahill Drive, just north of Southport Drive, will also be upgraded as part of the work.

Phase: Construction beginning September 2026

Sidewalk Renewal

  • Reconstruction of the sidewalks on both sides of Cahill Drive
  • Sidewalk widening between Albion Road South and Southport Drive
  • Replacement of sidewalks that are currently in poor physical condition
  • Restoration of landscaping, driveways and walkways disturbed by construction

Pedestrian Crossover Improvements

The existing PXO just north of Southport Drive will be upgraded to:

  • Narrow the roadway at the crossing
  • Shorten the distance pedestrians need to cross
  • Install updated accessibility features that meet current City standards

Timeline

  • Design: 2025–2026

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

During construction:

  • Sidewalks will be closed intermittently between Albion Road South and Southport Drive
  • Pedestrian detours will be installed during sidewalk closures
  • Residents can expect construction traffic and activity on Cahill Drive and surrounding streets
  • Lane reductions are anticipated during off-peak hours
  • Flag persons will be used to maintain two-way vehicle access

Impact on Adjacent Properties

Construction will take place within the City’s right of way. Some areas of private property immediately adjacent to the work may be temporarily affected.

The City will reinstate landscaping, driveways and walkways disturbed as part of construction.

Residents with irrigation systems, garden beds or other privately owned features located within the City right of way are encouraged to remove or relocate them before construction begins, as they could be damaged during the work.

Residents who are unsure whether their property may be affected should contact the City’s Project Manager.
