If your property was significantly damaged during the July 1 extreme weather event, you may be eligible for property tax relief through the City of Ottawa.
Under Ontario legislation, the City may cancel, reduce, or refund a portion of 2026 property taxes for properties where a building was damaged to the point that it could no longer be used for its intended purpose, or where repairs have prevented normal occupancy for at least three months. Eligible properties include residential, commercial, industrial, and farm properties.
To be considered, property owners must submit an application by February 28, 2027. Applications should be accompanied by pictures of the damaged areas and any other supporting documentation that is available. Eligible properties may receive a prorated adjustment to their 2026 property taxes.
There are several options available for submission:
-
By email: taxadjustments@ottawa.ca
-
By mail: City of Ottawa Revenue Services c/o Tax Adjustments Section, 100 Constellation Drive, 4th Floor East, Ottawa, ON K2G 6J8
-
By fax: 613-580-2457
An acknowledgment letter will be sent once your application has been received.
