Confirm Your Waste and Recycling Collection Schedule

Apr 2, 2026 | News Updates

Earlier this week, the City implemented changes to curbside waste collection as part of a new collection contract. As of Monday, March 30, some households have a new weekly collection day. Approximately half of Ottawa residents are affected by this update, while collection frequency remains the same.

Garbage continues to be collected bi-weekly, while green bin and leaf and yard waste collection continues weekly. Leaf and yard waste must be set out separately from the green bin in paper yard bags or a reusable container labelled “leaf and yard waste.”

To help with the transition, households may place up to six garbage items at the curb on their scheduled garbage collection day until April 24.

Some households may experience a one-time gap of longer than 17 days between garbage collection dates. To support residents during this transition, the City is offering a one-time garbage drop-off opportunity on Saturday, April 4 at the following locations:

8:30 to 11:30 am

  • Sandy Hill Community Centre, 250 Somerset Street East

  • St. Laurent Complex, 525 Côté Street

  • 951 Clyde Avenue

  • Windsor Park, 1 Windsor Park Avenue

1:30 to 4:30 pm

  • Walter Baker Sports Centre, 100 Malvern Drive

  • Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive

  • Nepean Woods Park and Ride, Strandherd Drive

Please note there is a limit of one bag per household (maximum 15 kg). Bulky items and additional bags will not be accepted, and proof of address may be required.

I encourage residents to confirm their updated collection day using the City’s online collection calendar or the Ottawa Collection app to avoid any missed pickups.

Thank you for your patience as the City transitions to the new collection schedule.
