Dearborn & Lester Intersection Modification

Mar 25, 2026 | News Updates

After the installation of a triangle median at the intersection of Dearborn Private and Lester Road by the developer of the Deerfield II community, my office started receiving feedback from residents expressing concern about vehicles making prohibited left-hand turns at this location.

Recognizing the safety risks associated with these maneuvers, my office partnered with City Staff over the years to proactively work towards a meaningful solution to resolve this problem. Measures explored included “No Left Turn” signage, targeted police enforcement, and compliance monitoring. Although these initiatives yielded some success, non-compliance remained an issue, which prompted me and my team to continue advocating for additional action.

Today, I am pleased to announce that we have now received confirmation from City Staff that the intersection of Dearborn Private and Lester Road will undergo permanent roadway modification. Construction is tentatively scheduled for this summer and will include the following:

  • Roadway widening to support a revised angled entry alignment for vehicles travelling southbound toward Lester Road

  • Installation of a new central island splitter

  • Incorporation of a bicycle channel through the island splitter to maintain cycling connectivity

  • Curb reconstruction to accommodate the proposed island geometry and roadway realignment

  • Pavement marking and signage updates

I am excited to see these improvements take shape, as the proposed design will introduce geometric and roadway layout changes. These are aimed at improving corridor operations, supporting compliance with existing traffic controls, and enhancing conditions for all road users within the project limits.
