Project Overview
The City of Ottawa is undertaking a major intersection realignment at Conroy Road and Davidson Road to improve safety, operations, and connectivity for all travelers. The project includes realigning Davidson Road east of Conroy Road to meet the existing alignment on the west side, and installing a new roundabout.
The realigned roadway will pass through National Capital Commission (NCC) lands, with the existing east leg of Davidson Road being naturalized and transferred to the NCC as part of a land exchange agreement. Additional drainage improvements, ditch modifications, culvert replacements, and localized storm sewer installations will be included to maintain proper drainage.
Key project features include:
- Realignment of Davidson Road (east leg) into a single unified intersection through a roundabout
- Installation of a roundabout (final selection pending NCC review)
- Multi-use pathway connections around the intersection
- Pedestrian crossovers on all legs of the new roundabout
- Street lighting upgrades
- Drainage improvements (ditches, culverts, minor storm sewer)
- Reduction of posted speed to 60 km/h approaching the new intersection
Current Status
Phase: Design & Environmental Assessment (Schedule C)
Design Completion: 66% (as of March 2026)
Progress Update:
- The Functional Design Study is complete.
- Finalization of the preferred design under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Schedule C) has begun.
- Environmental and field investigations began in spring 2025.
- NCC land negotiations are underway; designs will be submitted to NCC for review.
- A FLUDTA (Federal Land Use, Design, and Transaction Approval) review is scheduled for June 2026.
Timeline:
- Spring 2025: Field investigations
- Early Summer 2025: Roundabout selected
- Fall 2025: Detailed Design
- June 2026: Target for posting project for tender (pending NCC board approvals)
- Fall 2026: Clearing & grubbing in new right‑of‑way, utility relocations
- Full Construction: 2027
- Length of work: ~500 m along Davidson Rd and ~350 m along Conroy Rd
Project Budget
Approved funding to date: $1 million
Future construction funding pending Council approval.
