As of January 15, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) launched CommunityConnect, a new text-message service designed to keep residents informed when they call police for non-emergency assistance.
For certain calls, residents may receive text updates confirming their call was received, sharing a case number, and outlining next steps. When applicable, updates may also advise if a police response will be delayed. Once the call is closed, residents may receive a link to a short, optional feedback survey, available in both English and French. No confidential information will ever be shared by text.
What calls are included
CommunityConnect applies to priority 3 and 4 calls, where there is no immediate threat to life or crime in progress. Calls involving sexual assault, intimate partner violence, abduction, bomb threats, alarms, or demonstrations are excluded.
What residents can expect
-
A confirmation text that their call was received
-
A case number and information about next steps
-
Updates if a response is delayed
-
An optional feedback survey
Messages will come from 343-803-6032. Calling or texting this number will direct residents to OPS emergency or non-emergency lines.
This new service is part of OPS’s modernization efforts to improve communication, transparency, and the overall experience for residents seeking assistance.
