City staff are recommending that 8 Robert Kemp Street be designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. This designation is based on the property meeting six out of nine criteria, highlighting its architectural, historical, and contextual significance.
The home, originally constructed in 1958, was designed by architects Balharrie, Helmer & Morin as part of the Central Canada Exhibition (CCE) home lottery and was displayed at Lansdowne Park before moving to the Kempark subdivision later that year. This one-storey Modernist bungalow reflects the postwar suburban character of the area with its distinctive architecture, spacious lot, and deep setback. It also has a unique historical connection with five other CCE lottery homes relocated to the same subdivision.
The Built Heritage Committee will consider this recommendation on November 12, 2024, and it will go to Council for review on November 27, 2024.
