I am pleased to provide an update on the long-anticipated affordable housing development at 1770 Heatherington Road. The rezoning application for this project was reviewed and passed by the Planning and Housing Committee on September 11th, and it will now proceed to City Council for final approval on September 18th. Following Council’s decision, we anticipate seeing a site plan application shortly thereafter.
In addition, I’m excited to announce that we have secured $16 million in funding from the Province’s Building Faster Fund. This funding will be used to support critical housing-enabling infrastructure at 1770 Heatherington, including advancing the construction of 158 affordable housing units. The City was required to submit an investment plan detailing projects for the fund by July 19, and Council was notified of the approval of this plan last week, with 1770 Heatherington included as a key project.
This development represents a significant milestone in addressing our community’s housing crisis and aligns with the City’s Official Plan and the Building Better Revitalized Neighbourhoods (BBRN) initiative. Along with the affordable housing units, the project will include a new road and public park, designed with sustainability and the long-term needs of the community in mind.
