Yesterday we held an information session regarding the proposed land transfer to the Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition
For those who couldn’t attend, here’s a brief summary:
Our community has been chosen by the OAC to be the home of the very first Inuit Violence Against Women (IVAW) housing south of Inuit traditional homeland (Inuit Nunangat). This sanctuary will provide Inuit women and their children with a safe, healthy, and culturally appropriate place to live and heal in a welcoming family-oriented neighborhood with great access to schools, parks, and greenspace.
Next Steps:
The proposal for the land transfer will be placed on the public agenda for further discussion and consideration on:
- Finance and Corporate Services Committee: Tuesday, May 7 @ 9:30 am
- City Council: Wednesday, May 15 @ 10:00 am
If you wish to share your thoughts at the upcoming Finance and Corporate Services Committee meeting on Tuesday May 7th, please reach out to the committee coordinator Melinda Aston at 613-580-2424 ext 21838 or melinda.aston@ottawa.ca.
