New: Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Study on Tapiola Cres

Apr 19, 2024 | News Updates

Traffic safety is a top priority for our community, and we are continually looking for ways to slow down vehicles and improve pedestrian and cycling safety throughout the ward.

I am happy to announce that we have secured funding to complete a Traffic Calming Study along Tapiola Crescent from Johnston Road (East) to Johnston Road (West) in response to traffic concerns raised by local residents.

Unlike the Temporary Traffic Calming Program, this study will recommend permanent roadway modifications intended to improve safety for all road users, mainly by reducing vehicular speeds.

Based on traffic data, coordination with various stakeholders, and project constraints, a proposed conceptual traffic calming plan has been developed.

The proposed concept plan for Tapiola Crescent includes:

  • Addition of three pedestrian crossovers (PXO’s) with bulb-outs (narrowing) on each side.

  • Addition of two concrete center medians to reduce the overall width of adjacent travel lanes.

  • Improvements at the intersection of Tapiola Crescent and Johnston Road (East):

  • Improvements at the intersection of Tapiola Crescent and Johnston Road (West)
