Last week, City Council tabled the Draft 2024 Budget. The budget proposes an overall tax increase of 2.5 per cent, which would mean that the average urban homeowner would pay an additional $105 on their annual property tax bill, while the average rural homeowner would pay an additional $86.
City staff were asked to Draft the 2024 Budget with a focus on the core services that residents rely on every day, and key priorities to make Ottawa better. These priority areas included:
- A city that has affordable housing and is more liveable for all
- A city that is more connected with reliable, safe and accessible mobility options
- A city that is green and resilient
- A city with a diversified and prosperous economy

The Budget also contains several investments for Gloucester-Southgate Ward, subject to budget approval, including:
Improved Connectivity
- Funding to design new cycling facilities along Cahill Drive from Southgate Rd to Bank Street, to improve access to South Keys Station
- Funding to rehabilitate the pathway on Conroy Road from Johnston Road to Walkley Road
Safer Roads
- Funding to resurface Conroy Road between Hunt Club Road and Walkley Road
- Continued funding for Temporary Traffic Calming measures community wide
- Funding for the renewal of Uplands Drive Airport Parkway overpass South of Hunt Club Road
Improved Public Spaces
- Funding to replace the senior play structure in Forestglade Park
- Funding for interior improvements to the Sawmill Creek Pool and Community Centre
- Funding for enhancements to the Greenboro Pathway System
More Affordable Housing
- Capital funding to explore options of adding 158 affordable housing units at 1770 Heatherington Road
Climate Action
- Increased funding for Tree Planting Programs to enhance our urban tree canopy
